Our driver picks you up from your hotel in Khiva or Urgench and starts the daytrip early in the morning around 06:00 am. Please note that Nukus Museum is closed every Monday; updated visiting times are available at http://museum.kr.uz/visiting/. It takes about 90 minutes to drive to Chilpik Kala, a Dakhma or Tower of Silence used by Zoroastrians for exposure of the dead. Bodies were laid out under the open sky for birds, and once cleared, families collected them into clay or stone ossuaries for burial, offering a rare insight into ancient Zoroastrian traditions. From Chilpik Kala, it is about 40 minutes to Karakalpak State Museum of Art (Nukus Museum), where visitors are advised to spend 1–2 hours exploring a world-famous collection of Russian and Soviet avant-garde paintings assembled by Igor Savitsky. For lunch, travelers can choose options in Nukus, Kungrad, or along the Nayman highway between Nukus and Muynak; recommended restaurants include Cinnamon Café, Premier Lounge, Karakalpagim for local cuisine, or Neo Restaurant, while Muynak offers very limited choices. The most fascinating stop of the day is the Muynak Ship Cemetery and Aral Sea History Museum, located next to each other, where visitors learn about the environmental and cultural history of the Aral Sea. Once a bustling fishing port, Muynak suffered decades of ecological change due to river diversion for cotton farming, leaving abandoned ships on the former seabed. On the return journey, visit Mizdakhan Necropolis, an expansive complex established in the Early Antique period and active through the medieval era up to the 14th century, featuring a citadel, outer town, and burial sites spread across three hills. The day concludes with drop-off at your hotel, Urgench Airport, or Khiva/Urgench Train Station, completing an immersive journey through Karakalpakstan’s unique history, culture, and desert landscapes
